Resonator
This piece was the summation of an on site investigation into a space of transition and flux. This work was done within a decaying house located just outside of the Dallas Fort Worth area, and was a look at capturing one space, and shifting it to another.
Silence in a house was recorded, and the ambient sound was leveled out so that all that remains was the recording’s “presence.” The recording is then played back through the walls of a room in the middle of the house, and recorded a second time. This final recording is then played within the gallery through four removed walls from the house. Four images of the devices used to document this are hung adjacent the four walls.
Shift
Five tin cans are hung on the wall and five separate recordings of varying length are played through the cans. The recordings were done while in transit within different vehicles around the location where the cans are displayed.
